• Quaternary palaeoecology, palaeoclimatology and palynology, especially of arid regions.
• Tertiary history, palaeoecology and evolution of the Australasian vegetation.
• History and ecology of dry rainforests and savanna in northern Australia.
• Molecular biogeography of tropical and arid zone vegetation.
• Flying fox ecology, population dynamics and conservation.
• Microchiropteran bats in mangroves, tropical savanna and cane fields.
