Profile

Jodie Maxfield, BBus (Monash), Grad Dip Tax (UCQ), MEc (UNE), is the Course Coordinator for the College of Business, Law and Governance and the first year Accounting Coordinator at James Cook University (JCU). Jodie has taught across all year levels of the undergraduate degree in the accounting major but is known for specialising in first year accounting. Jodie has a passion for teaching, learning and encouraging students to develop their professional networks through industry sponsored networking events that she coordinates.

Leadership

As an early adopter of learning technologies Jodie is known for her innovative and engaging educational practice and piloting new innovations. Jodie is passionate about accounting and has a reputation at JCU for developing teaching and learning strategies that engage and enhance the student experience. This has been recognised in a 2017 National Teaching Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning. Jodie's innovative approach to the development of digital learning objects situate the learning and assist the student to achieve positive learning outcomes. Jodie leads by example, mentoring both staff and students in learning technologies and has been recognised with multiple teaching awards from JCU and Monash University. Jodie is the Course Coordinator for the College of Business, Law and Governance for the Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Commerce degrees at JCU.

Projects

College of Business, Law and Governance (CBLG) Trimester Project - This significant project is a pilot for the JCU Australian campsues and focuses on the transition of the business programs from a semester to a trimester offering. Jodie is responsible for the development of student study plans for the Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Tourism, Hospitality and Events undergraduate programs across all deliveries including Cairns and Townsville.

Events

Business Professionals Week - JCU Student Mixer. A major networking event to bring together students and professionals to promote employment opportunities.

Professional Panel Events for business and commerce students - Sponsored by Certified Practicing Accountants of Austalia (CPA), Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and Financial Planners Association of Australia (FPA). To promote career designation and opportunities within accounting and financial advising/planning industries.

Promotion of JCU and CBLG - Uni Experience (Uni X), Virtual Open Day, CBLG Orientation Week and School visits.

Previous Experience 

Jodie commenced working in the higher education sector at Monash University. During her time at Monash, she initiated a common template for subjects in the accounting major on the LMS and provided support to academic staff in the implementation of the LMS in the undergraduate degree. Jodie introduced 'tele-teaching' (an older form of video conferencing) in a multi campus environment in first year accounting classes. She was also part of a team that received the Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching for a project that developed an integrated approach to online assessment in introductory accounting. Jodie has a passion for encouraging students to perform their best and has fun participating in the journey.
