Research
Jemma King is a Lecturer and public health generalist. Prior to this appointment, she worked as a Research Officer on a number of research projects including falls prevention, bicycle safety, active transport, flood water risk perception and skitching. Her most recent research projects include exploring Queensland aeromedical retrievals, exploring the barriers and facilitators to the uptake of occupational health and safety practices amongst workers in Australia's primary industries, and the use and perceptions of large agricultural vehicles on public roads. Her current work alongside Professor Franklin, Dr Peden, Hannah Mason and other external collaborators, includes exploring the impacts of heatwaves on health and health system demand. She is also working with colleagues around Queensland, led by Sandra Downing, exploring unintended pregnancy prevention and care. Her primary fields of research are public health, health promotion, injury prevention and safety promotion (see visual depiction of these areas).
Teaching
Jemma teaches across a range of public health and health related subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Most recently she has moved into teaching and coordinating undergraduate subjects that introduce students to Health Professional Research and Research Methods. She relishes being able to bring her own research experiences into her teaching and opening up the perspectives of and building research capacity with the next generation of researchers. Jemma has a Master of Public Health with distinction (with a major in Health Promotion) and a double degree: Bachelor of Business -Bachelor of Psychology (Honours).
