About

Geraldine's research is focussed on cultural landscapes, particiularly related to industry. This includes archaeological investigations of social and industrial landscapes of resource extraction such as mining, sugar growing, and large scale indsutrial works and the central importance of people in these landscapes.

In understanding the interplay between people and technology, Geraldine is interested in the interpretation of cultural heritage, both tangible and intangible, together with ideas about memory and meaning, and their manifestations through cultural landscapes and material culture. This includes considerations of how technology, labour history and large scale industry can be represented in museum collections.

More broadly her research foci are firmly tied together through the framework of cultural landscapes, material culture and the adoption and adaptation of technology. Current research includes the cultural heritage of the Ipswich Railway Workshops site and the suburban landscape beyond.
