About

Alanna Sorenson is a scientist and lecturer within the Discipline of Biomedical Sciences and Molecular Biology in the College of Public Health, Medical and Veterinary Sciences, James Cook University. Alanna undertook her bachelor’s and honour's degrees in Biomedical Science at James Cook University and received her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from James Cook University.

Her primary research interest is on the use of novel techniques such as differential scanning fluorimetry of GFP-tagged proteins (DSF-GTP) to identify new antibiotics specific for drug resistant bacteria. She is interested in using this technique in high-throughput screening for drug discovery with a wide variety of protein targets in pathogenic organisms and cancer. Alanna’s research also focuses on using fluorescent proteins as biological sciences and the development of improved diagnostic tests for detection of antibodies and target proteins.
