Dr Zilmiyah completed her PhD in Hospitality and Tourism with her ethnographic study on Tourism as a catalyst to foster social cohesion in the post-war regions of Sri Lanka. She obtained her Doctor of Philosophy in Hospitality and Tourism Management (PhD) from Taylor’s University, Malaysia (2015), Master of Science (M.Sc.) in International Hospitality Management from Leeds Beckett University, UK (2005) and her Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) from Bangalore University (2001).
She is also actively involved with leading journals as a reviewer of research papers and gained experience through membership of the scientific committees for conferences. She is a continuing reviewer for the BEST EN Building Excellence in Sustainable Tourism Education Network and ad-hoc reviewer for the Asia Pacific Journal of Tourism Research, the Asia Pacific Journal of Innovation in Tourism and Hospitality, and the Journal of Policy Research in Tourism, Leisure and Events. She has chaired conference sessions and is also a member of the scientific committee for the Asia Euro conferences in tourism and hospitality.
She is a qualitative researcher and has supervised research in both hospitality and tourism related fields, drawing on her considerable industry experience and qualifications in hospitality as well as tourism. She has also consulted for the Seychelles Ministry of Tourism, and published research pertaining to social impacts of tourism, tourism planning and policy reviews of tourism development post-war in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Zilmiyah is interested in prospective PhD candidates with research interest in Tourism planning, destination governance, social impacts of tourism, niche or special interest tourism and hospitality management.
