About

Dr Subhashni Taylor began her career as a secondary science teacher. She has extensive teaching experience in senior secondary level science and environmental science in a variety of cultural contexts and under different education systems. She has a total of 12 years of teaching experience at various levels as a science teacher in Fiji, England and Australia.

Subhashni is currently a senior lecturer in science and sustainability education at James Cook University where she is involved in pre-service teacher education. She has published widely in both science and environmental education as well as applied science. Her PhD research investigated remote sensing and modelling techniques that contribute to better mapping and projected modelling of lantana, a weed of global significance, in an era of climate change. Her postdoctoral research involved the application of spatial technologies and species distribution modelling in investigating the impacts of climate change and weeds on endemic biodiversity in small island countries of the South Pacific Region.

Subhashni’s most recent area of research involves investigating educational benefits of school gardens on student learning outcomes, particularly in terms of scientific knowledge and skills, literacy and numeracy. Additionally, she is also involved in research investigating student knowledge and attitudes towards complex socio-scientific issues (SSIs) such as vaccination and antibiotic resistance.
