My scientific and academic career has concentrated on clinical research in infectious and neglected tropical diseases witih an emphasis on HIV, TB, Leishmaniasis and Cholera/Diarrhoeal Diseases. I have worked serveral years in leading global health institutions (Swiss Tropical  and Public Health Institute, Basel, International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh,  Dhaka, Ifakara Health Institute, Ifakara, and Infectious Diseases Institute, Kampala). Many of my projects in Asia and Africa focussed on the strenghtening of laboratory capacity and the transfer of skills to provide best possible care for patients in different settings.I percieve the link between innovative research and clinical services as crucial in the process of innovation, validation and application of health solutions,

In case you are interested in research projects in the field of Tropical Medicine or Travel Medicine please contact me. I  also organize a Journal Club in Tropical Medicine geared towards Early- and Mid Career Researchers.
