About

Dr. Jacob Wood GAICD, CMgr MCMI, FHEA, is the Associate Dean of Research for JCU Singapore and an Associate Professor of International Trade and Economics. In addition to this, he was the Founder and Director of the Centre for International Trade and Business in Asia (CITBA) [www.jcu.edu.au/citba] from 2018 until stepping down from the role in 2022. At JCU Singapore, Dr. Wood was awarded the Academic and Researcher of Year in 2019, the awards for Research Excellence and Excellence in Professional Engagement in 2020, and the Leadership Excellence Award in 2022. In addition, he completed the Oxford University Executive Leadership Programme in 2023 as well as being recognized as a Chartered Manager from the Chartered Management Institute (CMgr MCMI) later that same year. He has also completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course in 2021 (GAICD).

With a PhD in International Studies majoring in International Trade, Dr. Wood also has more than 10 years experience working in South Korea where he held roles as an Assistant Professor at Korea University of Technology and Education and then more recently as an Assistant Professor of Asia Business and International Trade at Chungnam National University. 

Dr. Wood's research interests focus on issues in the fields of transportation economics and management, development and environmental economics, and international trade. His works have been published in the Journal of Environmental Management; Science of the Total Environment; Journal of Cleaner Production; Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment; Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering, International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction; Journal of World Trade; Environment, Development and Sustainability; Journal of Global Information Management; the Singapore Economic Review; the World Economy; Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting and Economics; Asia-Pacific Economic Literature; and the Journal of Scientometrics amongst many others. In addition to this, Dr. Wood also has a Book Series with Routledge titled "Advances in Research on the Tropics" and he has led the development of the SAGE published Journal of Tropical Futures where he is the Managing Editor. Since 2017, Dr. Wood has also received two Korean National Foundation grants [(NRF-2017S1A5A2A03068293 - 50 million won and NRF-2020S1A5A2A03041143 - 226 million won)]. In 2019, he also organized a panel discussion event that involved all of the leading Chambers of Commerce in Singapore, the results of which led to an article being published in the Straits Times at: https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/education/tough-questions-for-tough-times. Dr. Wood is also seeking expressions of interest from potential PhD candidates with research experience and interests in neoprotectionism and international trade barriers, trade negotiations, the WTO dispute settlement system, and microeconomic policies.
